About this release

Dr.Fone is a set of phone tools that run from a desktop over a cable, bundled into one application with a module picker on the front page. The modules are separate jobs that happen to share a device connection layer, and the toolkit is the version with all of them unlocked rather than one purchased at a time.

Recovery is the module most people arrive for. It scans a connected handset, or a backup file on the computer, for deleted messages, call logs, contacts, photos, videos, notes and application data, and lets you preview what it found before restoring anything. Recovery from a backup file is often more successful than from the device itself, and the module reads the standard backup formats from both platforms directly.

Transfer moves content between two phones on the same cable regardless of platform, which is the awkward case that the manufacturer tools handle badly. Contacts, messages, call history, photos, video, music and supported application data all move in one pass. Alongside it sits the phone manager for browsing device storage from the desktop, moving media in either direction, and exporting contacts and messages to readable formats.

Beyond that the toolkit covers screen unlock for a forgotten passcode or pattern, system repair for a handset stuck in a boot loop or a recovery screen, full backup and selective restore that does not overwrite everything on the device, a data eraser with overwrite passes for a phone you are selling, and location handling for applications that need a set position. Everything runs over the cable with the appropriate platform drivers installed by the application on first use.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Unpack the archive to a local folder.
2. Disconnect from the network before running setup.
3. Run the installer as administrator and allow the device drivers when Windows prompts.
4. Do not launch from the finish screen.
5. Copy the included patched files over the install directory, overwriting when prompted.
6. Block the executable in your firewall, then connect a handset and let the drivers bind before opening a module.
