About this release

Wise Care 365 is a maintenance package built around a small number of things that genuinely help a slow machine, rather than a long list of adjustments that do nothing. It clears out accumulated temporary files, browser caches, update leftovers, thumbnail databases, crash dumps and installer remnants, and on a machine that has been running for a few years that alone frequently recovers tens of gigabytes.

The registry side does two jobs. The cleaner removes entries left behind by removed software, broken file associations and dead shell extensions, and the defragmenter rebuilds the hive so it loads as one contiguous block instead of a scattered one. Both take a restore point first, which is the correct behaviour and the reason this one is safe to use where a lot of similar tools are not.

Startup management is where most of the actual speed comes from. It lists every startup entry, scheduled task, service and shell extension that runs at boot, tells you what it belongs to, and lets you delay an item rather than only disabling it, so the things you do want still start but not all in the same thirty seconds. There is a boot time measurement so you can see whether a change helped instead of guessing.

Around that sit the extras: a system tuner exposing the network, menu delay, memory and visual effect settings that are otherwise buried, a duplicate file finder, a large file finder, a secure eraser that overwrites rather than deleting, a recovery tool for accidentally deleted files, a disk health reader, a memory optimiser that runs in the background, and a full hardware and software inventory report.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Close any earlier version and remove it from the control panel first.
3. Disconnect from the network.
4. Run the installer as administrator and untick any additional components you do not want.
5. Close the installer rather than launching from it.
6. Copy the contents of the unlock folder into the installation directory, overwriting when asked.
7. Start the application, create a restore point manually, then run your first scan.
