EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
File recovery from deleted, formatted, corrupted and unreadable volumes, with a bootable environment included for machines that will not start at all.
A small, fast undelete tool that finds recently deleted files on any attached volume, shows how likely each one is to come back intact, and restores them in a couple of clicks.
Recuva is the tool for the ordinary version of the problem: a file went into the recycle bin and then out of it, a card was emptied before the photographs were copied off, or a folder was deleted from a network share with no bin behind it. It scans the volume, lists what is recoverable, and puts it back. It is small, it starts instantly, and it does not require you to understand anything about file systems to use it.
The wizard walks you through it the first time. Pick a file type or all files, pick where they were, and it scans. Results come back with a coloured state per file showing whether it is intact, partially overwritten or unlikely to recover, which is the most useful thing in the interface because it stops you spending an hour on files that were gone before you started.
Beyond the wizard there is a full interface with the parts that matter for a harder job. A deep scan that walks raw sectors looking for signatures when the file system records are gone, filtering by name pattern, size and state, a preview pane for images, and the ability to scan an unmounted or damaged volume by drive rather than by letter. Files can be recovered from memory cards, cameras, phones in mass storage mode, external drives and optical media.
The Professional level adds automatic updates to the signature list, support for virtual hard disk files so you can recover from inside a container, and priority given to scanning the areas most likely to contain recent deletions first. There is also a secure overwrite tool in the same window, which does the opposite job properly for the times you want something gone rather than back.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
