About this release

Office Tool Plus is a graphical front end for the deployment machinery Microsoft ships for enterprise rollouts. That machinery is powerful and completely unpleasant to drive by hand, because it expects a hand written configuration file with product identifiers, channel names, language tags and exclusion lists in it. This tool builds that file for you from a set of checkboxes, then runs it.

In practice that means you get to install exactly what you want. Pick the release, pick the architecture, pick the update channel, then tick the applications you actually use and untick the rest. If you never open Access, Publisher, OneDrive or the Teams add in, they never touch the disk. Add as many display and proofing languages as you like in one pass instead of installing the suite and then hunting language packs afterwards.

It also handles everything around the install. It can add or remove a single application from an existing installation without touching the rest, switch an install between update channels, roll a build back to a previous version when an update breaks something, repair a damaged installation, and clean out the remnants of a failed or half removed install that would otherwise block the next attempt. The removal tool alone saves a great deal of time on machines with layers of old installs on them.

The licensing panel covers product key management, install and uninstall of keys, key management service configuration, licence status reporting and conversion between retail and volume licensing on an existing install. Everything it does is visible in a log pane, and the generated configuration file can be exported and reused, which makes it straightforward to reproduce the same install on a second machine.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Remove any existing suite installation using the removal panel inside this tool first.
3. Run the executable as administrator.
4. Choose the release, the architecture, the update channel and the applications you want.
5. Add your display and proofing languages before starting the deployment.
6. Start the install and leave it alone. It downloads a large payload and shows progress in the log pane.
7. Open the licensing panel afterwards and confirm the reported status.
