About this release

MyDockFinder adds two persistent elements to the desktop: a dock along one edge and a status bar along the top. The dock holds pinned applications and running windows, magnifies icons as the pointer passes over them, shows a running indicator under each, and expands into live thumbnail previews when an application has more than one window open. Clicking a preview raises that specific window, which is faster than cycling through a taskbar group.

The status bar carries the clock, battery, volume, network and a set of small indicators, and it can host module style readouts for processor load, memory pressure, disk activity, network throughput and temperature. Modules are added and reordered by dragging, and each one has its own refresh interval and display format. The whole bar can be set to hide over full screen windows so nothing overlaps a video or a game.

Window management is more capable than the appearance suggests. There is a full screen application overview that tiles every open window with labels, a desktop peek that pushes windows aside, hot corners that trigger any of those actions, and multi desktop switching with a gesture on a precision touchpad. Dock stacks let a folder sit on the dock and fan its contents out on click, which is a genuinely useful place to park a downloads folder or a project directory.

Everything about the look is adjustable. Dock size, magnification amount, position, padding, corner rounding, background blur strength, transparency and animation speed all have sliders, and icon packs can be applied to replace the system icons for pinned applications. Theme presets can be exported and imported as a single file. Performance impact is low because the dock renders through the compositor rather than by continuously screenshotting the desktop, and it can be told to release its resources entirely while a full screen application is in front.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Disconnect from the network before running the installer.
3. Run the setup executable as administrator.
4. Allow the compositor helper when prompted. Without it the dock will render but not blur.
5. Close the installer rather than launching from it, then start the application from the Start menu.
6. Set the dock to hide the system taskbar in settings if you want only one taskbar on screen.
