Mastercam turns a model into machine motion. You bring in geometry from any of the common modelling formats, define stock, tools, work offsets and machining strategies, and it produces the code that a specific machine on a specific shop floor will run. The last part is the one people underestimate: the output is tailored by a post processor to the exact controller in front of you, and the library of those post processors is one of the main reasons the software is as widespread as it is.
The dynamic motion toolpath family is the headline capability. Rather than cutting at a fixed depth with a fixed stepover, these strategies keep the tool engagement angle constant by continuously adjusting the path, which lets you take the full flute length at high feed rates without spiking the load on the tool or the spindle. On hard material the difference in cycle time and tool life against a conventional pocketing strategy is not marginal, it is the reason shops upgrade.
Coverage runs across the machining disciplines. Two through five axis milling with full simultaneous strategies, turning with live tooling and sub spindle support, mill turn on multi channel machines with synchronisation between channels, wire electrical discharge machining with four axis paths, and routing with nesting for sheet goods. Each discipline shares the same interface, the same tool library and the same stock model, so a shop running several machine types is not learning several applications.
Verification is done against a real material removal simulation rather than a wireframe preview. The simulation shows the stock being cut in solid form, flags gouges, collisions between holder and part, rapid moves through material and travel limit violations, and compares the finished result against the original model with a colour deviation map. On multi channel machines the simulation runs both channels in sync so collisions between turret and sub spindle are caught before the door closes on a real part.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Always verify against the simulation before you send code to a machine. A post processor mismatch produces code that looks correct and moves the machine somewhere it should not go.
Post processors are machine specific. Editing one for your controller is normal and expected, so keep a backup of the original before you change anything.
