Revit is not a drawing package that happens to work in three dimensions. It is a database of building elements that produces drawings as a by product. Walls know they are walls, know their construction, know what they connect to and know what they cost. Every plan, section, elevation, schedule and detail is a view onto that same database, which means they cannot disagree with each other.
That is the whole argument for building information modelling and it is why the industry moved. Move a wall and every affected view updates. Change a door type and the schedule, the plan tag and the elevation all follow. Nothing gets missed because a drawing was updated and another one was not, which was the single largest source of error in traditional drafting.
The application covers three disciplines in one. Architecture handles walls, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairs, railings, curtain systems and rooms. Structure handles framing, foundations, reinforcement detailing and analytical models that hand off to analysis packages. MEP handles ducts, pipes, cable containment, electrical distribution and system calculations, with connectors that understand flow and load.
Coordination is handled through worksharing and links. Multiple people work on a central model at once, checking out worksets as they go. Consultant models link in and stay live. Interference checking finds clashes between disciplines before anyone is on site. Phasing and design options let alternatives and construction stages live in the same model without duplicating it.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Only install the content libraries for the regions you actually work in. Each one adds several gigabytes.
Revit is more sensitive to single core clock speed than to core count. A high clock quad core beats a slow sixteen core.
