About this release

Lumion exists because architectural visualisation used to mean setting up a scene, hitting render and waiting overnight to find out you got the light wrong. Lumion renders in real time. You move the sun and the shadows follow immediately. You change the material and it is applied as you watch. The feedback loop is instant, which changes how the work gets done, because you can iterate rather than guess.

The workflow is deliberately short. Import the model from Revit, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, Rhino, 3ds Max or a neutral format, drop it onto a terrain, assign materials from the library, place vegetation and people and vehicles, set the weather and the time of day, position a camera, and render. There is no node graph and no render settings panel with two hundred options.

The content library is a large part of the value and Pro carries the full one. Thousands of models covering trees, plants, people, animals, vehicles, street furniture, interior fittings and lighting, plus hundreds of materials with proper displacement, reflection and weathering. The vegetation in particular is what makes an exterior read as real, and there is a lot of it.

Output covers stills, animations, panoramas and the interactive walkthrough format. LiveSync keeps a connection open to the modelling application so changes appear in the render view as you make them, which turns Lumion into a live preview window rather than a separate step at the end.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Make sure you have sixty gigabytes free before you start. The content library is most of the size.
2. Mount the image and disconnect from the network.
3. Run the installer as administrator and choose a content library location on a fast drive.
4. The content install is very long. Leave it running.
5. Close the installer without launching the application.
6. Apply the licensing files from the included folder, then reboot before first launch.
