About this release

KMSOffline is the simplest tool in this category and that is its entire design goal. You run one portable executable, it detects what is installed, you press one button, and it reports what it did. There is no installation, no service left running afterwards, and no network connection involved at any point, which is what the name refers to.

The detection pass runs first and it is worth reading before you press anything. It lists every installed product it can see, the edition of each, the current licensing state, the remaining period where one exists and whether a conversion is needed before activation is possible. On a machine where something has gone wrong that report on its own often explains the problem without any further action.

It covers the Windows client and server editions alongside the Office suites, and it handles the retail to volume conversion step automatically where a conversion path exists, which is the part that trips people up when they try to do it manually. Once complete it can install a renewal task so the state maintains itself, or it can be left as a one off and run again whenever you want.

Everything it does is logged in plain text: what was detected, what was attempted, which keys were installed, what the result was and what remains. The uninstall path reverses all of it, removing the renewal task and the installed keys and returning the system to the state it was in. The executable is portable, so nothing has to be installed to use it and nothing is left behind when you delete the folder.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder. Do not run it from inside the archive viewer.
2. Turn off real time protection for the length of the run. This whole category triggers heuristics.
3. Add the folder to your scanner's exclusions if you plan to keep it.
4. Right click the executable and run it as administrator.
5. Read the detection report before you press anything.
6. Press the activation button, then check the resulting state in the log and in system settings.
