Glary Utilities Pro

About this release

Glary Utilities collects the several dozen small maintenance jobs that a Windows machine accumulates into one panel, so you are not hunting through four control panels and three separate downloads to do them. The one click maintenance runs the safe subset of those jobs in sequence and reports what it found, which is where most people start and often where they stop.

Cleanup covers the obvious targets properly. Temporary files from the system and from installed applications, browser caches and histories across every installed browser, log files, crash dumps, thumbnail caches, orphaned installer remnants and the update caches that quietly consume tens of gigabytes. The disk analyser shows what is actually taking space as a sorted tree so you can find the one folder responsible rather than guessing.

The repair and control tools are the more interesting half. Registry cleaning with a backup taken before every change and a restore point on demand. Startup manager showing every autostart entry with a delay option rather than only enable and disable. Shortcut fixer, driver backup and restore, service tuning, context menu editor, and a process manager that shows what a running process actually is rather than only its file name.

Privacy and file tools round it out. Secure file deletion with multiple overwrite passes, file undelete for the times you were too quick, a duplicate finder that compares content rather than only name and size, an empty folder finder, file splitting and joining, and an encryption tool for individual files. Everything destructive keeps a history so a change made by mistake can be rolled back rather than argued with.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Create a system restore point before the first run. The tool can also do this for you.
3. Run the installer and decline the additional bundled offers.
4. Close the installer without launching the application.
5. Run the included licensing helper as administrator from the same folder.
6. Open the application and turn off the automatic update check in settings.
