ArcGIS Pro is the desktop application at the centre of the largest geographic information system in professional use. It handles the whole cycle: bringing spatial data in, cleaning and editing it, analysing it, symbolising it, and producing a finished map or scene that goes to print or into a wider system. Utilities, planning departments, surveyors, environmental teams, logistics operations and researchers all end up in it.
The data model is the important part. Feature classes, rasters, tables, networks, topologies and relationship classes live in a geodatabase with real rules attached: domains that constrain what a field can contain, subtypes that change behaviour per feature category, topology rules that catch gaps and overlaps, and versioning so several editors can work on the same dataset and reconcile afterwards. That is what separates it from a drawing tool that happens to know about coordinates.
Analysis runs through the geoprocessing library, which is several hundred tools covering overlay, proximity, statistics, interpolation, hydrology, terrain, network routing, suitability modelling and raster algebra. Tools chain together in ModelBuilder as a visual workflow or in Python through the scripting interface, and any model you build can be run again over new data, shared as a tool, or scheduled. Imagery handling covers multispectral analysis, classification, change detection, orthorectification and point cloud processing from lidar.
Cartography and 3D are handled in the same project rather than in separate applications. A project holds any number of 2D maps and 3D scenes over the same data, with layouts that hold map frames, legends, scale bars, north arrows, grids and dynamic text that updates from the map itself. Symbology goes down to per feature rotation, cartographic offsets and label placement rules that behave sensibly at every scale.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Keep your projects and geodatabases on a local fast drive. Running a file geodatabase over a network share is slow and will eventually corrupt it.
Set the licensing mode to the offline option on first launch. Leaving it on the online option puts the application into a check loop.
