ANSYS is not one application, it is a collection of solvers with a shared front end, and this listing is the whole collection rather than a single discipline. Structural mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, electromagnetics, optics, semiconductor and materials work all install together under Workbench, which coordinates the geometry, the mesh, the solve and the results as a connected project schematic rather than a set of separate applications.
The structural side covers static and transient analysis, modal and harmonic response, buckling, fatigue, explicit dynamics for impact and drop, and full non linear behaviour including plasticity, contact, hyperelastic materials and large deformation. Fluids covers Fluent and CFX with the full turbulence model set, multiphase flows, combustion, moving meshes and conjugate heat transfer. Electromagnetics covers low and high frequency work, motors, antennas, signal integrity and EMC.
Meshing is where a lot of the practical work lives and it is treated as a first class part of the workflow. Automatic meshing with size controls and inflation layers, hex dominant and polyhedral options, mesh quality metrics, and a mesh that stays associated with the geometry so a design change re meshes rather than starting over. SpaceClaim is included for geometry preparation, which is genuinely the fastest way to clean up imported CAD, defeature it and extract fluid volumes.
Results handling includes the full post processing environment with contour and vector plots, streamlines, particle traces, animations, probes and chart output, plus a report generator. Parametric studies, design of experiments, response surfaces and optimisation run through the project schematic, so sweeping a design across a parameter range is a table rather than a manual repeat. Solves distribute across cores and across machines where the hardware is available.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Solve scratch space is heavily written. Put it on a separate fast drive from the install or large solves crawl.
Install the licensing component before the products. Doing it afterwards means every product needs reconfiguring by hand.
