WinRAR Professional
The archiver that reads everything and writes RAR and ZIP properly, with recovery records, solid archives and multi volume splitting.
An offline driver library that installs everything a fresh Windows install is missing without needing a working network connection first.
DriverPack solves the chicken and egg problem of a fresh install: you need a driver for the network adapter to download drivers. This is the full offline edition, which means the entire driver library is inside the archive rather than fetched at run time. Put it on a stick, carry it to a machine that has just been reinstalled and has no working connection at all, run it, and it installs everything.
The library is very large because it covers everything rather than the current generation. Chipsets going back many years, network and wireless adapters, audio codecs, graphics from all three vendors, storage controllers, card readers, touchpads, bluetooth, printers, scanners, webcams and the long tail of laptop specific devices that generic drivers do not cover. That is where the archive size comes from, and it is the entire point of the offline edition.
Operation is straightforward. It reads the hardware identifiers off the bus, matches them against the library, presents a list of what is missing or outdated, and installs the selection in one pass. There is an expert mode that shows each device, the driver currently bound to it, and the version available, so you can install selectively rather than taking everything. It creates a restore point before it begins.
There is no installation step for the tool itself, it runs from wherever you extracted it, which is what makes it useful as a recovery stick. Alongside driver installation it reports the full hardware inventory of the machine, which is handy when you are working on something you did not build and need to know what is actually inside it before you go looking for anything by hand.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Any Intel or AMD processor |
|---|---|
| Memory | 2 GB minimum |
| Graphics | No specific requirement, it installs the driver for whatever is present |
| Storage | 30 GB free for the extracted library |
| Display | 1024 by 768 or higher |
Use expert mode. Simple mode also offers optional software you almost certainly do not want.
Install the network driver first, reboot, and then do the rest online if you can. The library is comprehensive but a manufacturer package is always newer.
