About this release

The moment a driver tool earns its place is on a fresh install where the network adapter has no driver, so you cannot download the driver you need to get on the network to download drivers. Driver Talent handles that specific problem with a network card package you prepare on a working machine, carry across on a stick, and install offline. Everything else it does is convenience by comparison.

In normal use it scans the machine, identifies every device including the ones Windows lists only as unknown hardware, and reports which drivers are missing, outdated or broken. Each entry shows the installed version against the available one, so you can decide per device rather than accepting a bulk update. Downloads run in a queue and installation can be done one device at a time or across the whole list unattended.

Backup and rollback are the part that makes updating drivers safe rather than a gamble. Before anything is installed it can archive every current driver into a single restorable package, so a bad graphics or storage driver can be undone in one operation instead of hunting for the previous version afterwards. There is also a restore point trigger before installs, and an uninstall tool for removing a driver completely rather than leaving remnants behind.

The extras around it are genuinely useful on an older machine. Hardware detail reporting for every component, a peripheral test set for the keyboard, mouse, camera and sound, VR and game controller driver handling, and a network card repair function that resets the stack when a connection has stopped working for reasons nobody can identify.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Create a system restore point before you begin.
3. Run the installer and decline the additional bundled offers.
4. Close the installer without launching the application.
5. Run the included licensing helper as administrator from the same folder.
6. Open the application, take a full driver backup, and only then look at what it wants to update.
