MathWorks MATLAB R2025b
The numerical computing environment and its language, bundled with the full toolbox set and Simulink so nothing is missing when a model asks for a block you do not have.
Building analysis and design built around how buildings are actually put together, with floor by floor modelling, code based design and drawing output in one model.
ETABS is a structural analysis and design package written specifically for buildings, and that focus is the whole point of it. Instead of asking you to build a general purpose finite element mesh and then interpret it, it works in stories, grids, beams, columns, walls, slabs and diaphragms, which are the objects an engineer already thinks in. Draw a floor once, replicate it up the building, and the model follows the way the structure is actually built.
Because it understands stories, it produces the results that matter for a building directly. Story drift, story shear, overturning moment, centre of mass against centre of rigidity, torsional irregularity checks, diaphragm forces and load path tracing all come out as story tables rather than something you have to derive from raw node results. Automatic lateral load generation for wind and seismic runs against the selected code and applies the eccentricities the code requires.
The analysis range covers what building work needs. Linear and nonlinear static, modal analysis with eigen and Ritz vectors, response spectrum, linear and nonlinear time history, P delta with large displacement, staged construction, creep and shrinkage for concrete, buckling, pushover with hinge definitions, and base isolation and damper modelling for anything with a protective system in it.
Design is integrated rather than exported. Steel frame, concrete frame, composite beam, composite column, steel joist, shear wall and slab design all run inside the same model against the international code libraries, with member selection iterating until the sections satisfy the checks. Output includes detailing drawings, schedules, reinforcement layouts and structured calculation reports, and the model exchanges with the common building information formats.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Intel or AMD, 64 bit, six cores or more, high clock speed benefits the solver |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB or more for tall buildings and time history runs |
| Graphics | 2 GB VRAM with an OpenGL or DirectX capable driver |
| Storage | 20 GB free during install, 11 GB after, SSD recommended |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 minimum |
Keep model files outside the installation directory. A repair or reinstall clears that tree.
Verify a fresh install against a model with known results before using it on live work.
