Chaos Enscape

About this release

Enscape is not a separate application you export to. It installs into your modelling software and opens a render window alongside it. Move a wall in Revit and the render updates. Change a material in SketchUp and it is applied immediately. There is no export step, no scene setup and nothing to keep in sync, which is precisely why it spread through architecture practices so quickly.

It plugs into Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, ArchiCAD and Vectorworks, and behaves the same way in all of them. The material editor maps onto whatever the host application already uses, so materials you have already assigned come across and get upgraded rather than replaced. Lighting is largely automatic: place the sun by date free time of day and orientation controls, add artificial lights where you need them, and the global illumination is handled without a settings panel.

The asset library covers the things a building needs to look inhabited. Vegetation, people, furniture, fittings, vehicles and accessories, all placed directly in the host application as proxies so the model stays light. There is also a custom asset path so an office can add its own components to the same library.

Output covers stills, panoramas, animation paths and the standalone walkthrough executable that can be handed to a client who has none of the software installed. That last one is the feature that gets it approved by practice management, because it turns a model into something you can email to a planning committee.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Install your host modelling application first. Enscape needs to find it during setup.
2. Extract the archive to a local drive and disconnect from the network.
3. Run the installer as administrator and select which host applications to integrate with.
4. Close the installer when it completes.
5. Apply the licensing files from the included folder.
6. Open your host application and confirm the Enscape ribbon or toolbar has appeared.
