About this release

CCleaner is the maintenance tool that most people met first, and its core job has not changed. It walks the places on a Windows machine where junk accumulates, shows you exactly what it found with sizes, and removes it when you say so. Browser caches, temporary folders, log files, crash dumps, thumbnail caches, installer leftovers, recycle bins across every drive and the update caches that quietly eat tens of gigabytes.

The analysis pass is the part worth respecting. Nothing is deleted until you have seen the list, and every category has a checkbox so you can keep the things you actually want, such as saved form data or a browser session. Custom include and exclude rules let you point it at a folder your own software fills up, or protect one it would otherwise clear.

Beyond cleaning there is a set of tools that cover most of what a maintenance session involves. Startup control across programs, scheduled tasks, context menu entries and browser plugins, with the ability to disable rather than only delete. A software uninstaller that also handles the store applications the standard panel hides. A duplicate finder, a drive wiper with selectable passes, a system restore point browser, and a disk analyser that shows where the space actually went. The registry cleaner is included and offers to back up before every change.

This build carries the Professional, Technician and Business editions in one archive. The Technician build is the portable one intended for working on other people's machines, so it runs without installing and leaves nothing behind.

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
2. Uninstall any existing CCleaner build first.
3. Run the installer, and turn off the browser extension and health check monitoring offers on the setup screen.
4. Do not launch the application from the installer.
5. Copy the contents of the included folder into the installation directory, overwriting when asked.
6. Start CCleaner, then block the executable in your firewall and turn off automatic updating in options.
