Canva took the parts of design work that are repetitive and made them a picking exercise. You choose a document size, you choose a template, you replace the text and the elements with your own, and you export. That description undersells how much of professional adjacent output now goes through it: social posts, decks, one page documents, posters, menus, business cards, thumbnails, short vertical video and printed material all live in the same editor with the same controls.
The desktop build is not a wrapper around a tab in a browser in the way people assume. It renders locally, keeps a working cache so large documents open quickly, holds fonts on the machine, and works on a document that is already open when the network is unavailable. Drag and drop from Explorer works properly, the file dialogs are native, and it does not compete with a browser session for memory.
Editing is deliberately shallow in the right places and deep enough where it matters. Text has proper typographic controls, effects and curve on path. Elements can be layered, grouped, masked into frames and given transparency and blend modes. Images get cropping, background removal, adjustment sliders and filters. Brand kits lock colour palettes, fonts and logos so a set of documents stays consistent when several people are producing them. Magic Resize takes one layout and produces the whole set of platform sizes from it.
Video and animation are in the same editor rather than a separate application. A timeline runs under the canvas, elements can be animated with entrance and exit presets, audio can be dropped in and trimmed, and the result exports as a normal video file. The presentation mode includes speaker notes, timing and a presenter view. Export covers PDF for print with bleed and crop marks, PNG and JPG at chosen scales, SVG, and video at common resolutions.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

The cache grows quickly if you work on video projects. Clear it from the settings page rather than deleting the folder by hand.
Brand kits are stored with the local profile in this build, so copy the profile folder if you move machines.
