Photoshop is the reason most people learn image editing at all, and the 2026 desktop build is the widest version of it that has ever shipped. The core is unchanged in the way that matters: layers, masks, blend modes, adjustment stacks, smart objects, the pen tool, and a selection engine that has been refined for three decades. What has changed is how much of the tedious middle of a job the application now does on its own, and how many of those operations run without a round trip to a browser.
The generative stack in this build is the interesting part. Generative Fill and Generative Expand sit on the toolbar where they always have, but the model routing behind them has been widened, and this release exposes Flux Kontext Pro for instruction led edits and Gemini Nano Banana for fast local-feeling composites. In practice that means you can select a region, describe the change in plain language, and get four variations placed on their own layers with masks already cut, then keep working on them like any other pixel layer. Nothing is baked down until you flatten it yourself.
Everything else you would expect from a professional raster editor is here and working. Camera Raw opens as a filter or as a front end for a whole shoot. Neural Filters handle skin, depth, colourisation and style transfer. The Select Subject and Object Selection tools have been retrained and now hold up on hair, glass, motion blur and chain link, which used to be the four places automatic selection fell apart. Smart object linking, artboards, frame animation, video timelines, 3D text extrusion and the full filter gallery are all present.
This listing is the complete offline desktop application, not a launcher that pulls the payload down afterwards. Language packs for every locale Adobe ships are included in the same archive, and the plugin folder is left writable so third party panels install normally.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

The generative features will try to reach the network on first launch. If you have blocked the executable they fall back to the local model path instead of erroring out.
Camera Raw is installed alongside and updates independently. Leave it at the bundled version unless you have a reason not to.
