CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is a package rather than a single application. CorelDRAW handles vector illustration and page layout. Corel PHOTO-PAINT handles raster editing. Corel Font Manager organises typefaces without installing them system wide. PowerTRACE converts bitmaps to editable vectors. AfterShot handles raw photos. Together they cover a production job end to end without leaving the suite.
In sign making, vinyl cutting, engraving, screen printing and apparel decoration, CorelDRAW is often the house standard rather than the alternative. The reasons are practical: contour cutting and cut line handling that plotters understand, colour separations built into the print dialogue, spot colour management including Pantone libraries, imposition and print merge, and a file format that every cutter driver on the market reads.
The illustration tools themselves are strong and slightly different in character from the competition. LiveSketch turns freehand strokes into adjusted curves as you draw. The Perspective drawing tools set up one, two or three point grids and keep everything on them. Impact tools, block shadow, contour, envelope, blend and the powerclip system for containing artwork inside a shape are all long standing and well refined.
PowerTRACE deserves its own mention. It is the best bitmap to vector conversion in any mainstream suite, with control over detail, smoothing, corner behaviour and colour count, plus the ability to merge and delete traced colours before you commit. For anyone recreating a logo from a low resolution file this is the tool that does it.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Install the whole suite even if you only need CorelDRAW. The applications share components and a partial install causes odd failures later.
Keep the application firewalled if you want the licence state to stay put.
