AutoCAD Architecture is the standard drafting application with the architectural toolset compiled in rather than bolted on. Everything from plain AutoCAD is present and behaves identically, so the file format, the command line, the layer system, the plotting setup and every habit you have are unchanged. What is added is a library of objects that know what they are.
A wall is a wall rather than two parallel lines. It has a style, a width, a height, a base and top offset, components with materials, a cleanup radius that makes intersections resolve correctly, and an endcap condition. Doors and windows cut their own openings and move with the wall when it moves. Stairs and railings calculate their own risers against a floor to floor height. Roofs, slabs, curtain walls, structural members and spaces work the same way, each with a style library you can extend and share across a practice.
Because the objects carry data, the documentation stops being drawn twice. Schedules pull door, window, room and equipment data straight from the model and update when it changes. Tags reference the object rather than repeating its number. Sections and elevations generate from the plan and regenerate when the plan moves. Area and space calculation produces gross and net figures against the boundary rules you set rather than against rectangles you traced.
It stays a drawing tool rather than becoming a modelling tool, which is exactly why it persists. The output is DWG, the same DWG everyone else in the chain reads, with the intelligence stored inside it and degrading gracefully to plain geometry for anyone opening it in something else.
