Adobe Photoshop 2026
The full desktop build of Photoshop with the generative model stack left switched on, including Flux Kontext Pro and Gemini Nano Banana routing.
The lighter Lightroom, built around a simple folder view and a full raw editor with AI masking, for people who want to edit a shoot rather than run a library.
This is the streamlined Lightroom rather than the catalogue driven Classic application, and the difference is the whole point. There is no import dialogue with a dozen decisions, no catalogue file to back up, and no separate modules to move between. You point it at your photos, they appear, and you edit them. Everything happens in one window with one panel of controls on the right.
The editing engine underneath is the same one Classic uses, which is why the simplification does not cost anything where it matters. Full raw development with exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, texture, clarity, dehaze, vibrance and saturation, the full tone curve, a colour mixer per hue, colour grading with separate shadow, midtone and highlight control, detail and noise reduction, lens correction, geometry and effects. Profiles from the camera manufacturer and Adobe's own set are all available in the browser.
AI masking is the feature that changed how most people edit. It picks out the subject, the sky, the background, individual people, and within a person the skin, eyes, hair, lips, clothing and facial hair, each as its own mask with the complete slider set attached. Brush, linear and radial masks combine with them through intersect and subtract, which covers essentially any local adjustment you would otherwise have taken into a pixel editor for.
Organisation is deliberately light. Albums and folders, star ratings and flags, keywords, and a search that understands what is in the picture rather than only what you typed about it. Edits are non destructive, presets can be created and applied on import, and export handles sizing, format, colour space, sharpening and watermarking with reusable settings.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
