There is a narrow but real case for this one. A great deal of industrial, laboratory, medical and manufacturing equipment shipped with drivers written for this generation and never received anything newer. The machine attached to that equipment does not need to be modern, it needs to run the driver, and this is often the last operating system that does. The same applies to a range of older peripherals, capture cards and interface hardware.
It is also genuinely light by current standards. Windows 8.1 boots quickly, runs comfortably in two gigabytes of memory, and installs on hardware that struggles badly with anything from the last decade. On an old tablet, netbook or small form factor machine it is often the difference between something usable and something that spends its life waiting.
The Professional edition carries what you would expect from that tier. BitLocker, Remote Desktop hosting, domain join, Group Policy editing, Hyper-V on the 64 bit build, and Encrypting File System. This image is on the final Update 3 branch, which restored the desktop behaviour people wanted, brought back a usable start button, and included the last round of interface corrections before the branch closed.
Both architectures are in the same multilingual image with the language chosen during setup, and it uses the standard setup path so repair installs behave normally. It arrives licensed with nothing to run afterwards. Do note that this branch no longer receives security updates, which is fine for an offline machine driving a lathe and a poor idea for anything that reaches the internet.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

This branch no longer receives security updates. Keep the machine off the open internet if it matters at all.
Some current hardware has no drivers for this generation at all. Check your network and storage controllers before you commit to it.
