A stripped Professional image with the telemetry, store applications and background services removed, built for old hardware and single purpose machines.
This is Windows 10 Professional with a great deal taken out. The store applications, the assistant, the telemetry stack, the feedback and diagnostics services, the background content delivery, the tips and suggestions machinery and a long list of scheduled tasks are all gone rather than disabled. The result installs in a fraction of the time, boots faster, and idles at a memory figure that makes machines with four gigabytes usable again.
There are three variants in the same image. The lite build removes the obvious bulk while keeping the servicing stack intact so updates still install. The superlite build goes considerably further and removes the update mechanism along with a range of components most people never touch, which suits a machine with one job that will never change. The compact variant applies file system compression across the install, which trims the footprint again at a small processor cost, and is aimed at small solid state drives and tablets.
The obvious question is what breaks, and the answer is documented rather than glossed over. The store is gone, so store applications cannot be installed without adding the component back. Some optional features are unavailable in the superlite build. Anything depending on the search indexer behaves differently since the indexer is disabled by default. Everything else, meaning desktop applications, drivers, networking, printing, remote desktop and the Professional features, works normally.
It is a Professional base, so BitLocker, Group Policy, Remote Desktop hosting and domain join remain available in the lite build. Installation uses the standard setup path, drivers install as they normally would, and the image arrives already licensed with nothing to run afterwards. For a workshop machine, a media box, a point of sale terminal or a laptop from a decade ago, this is the sensible install.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

The superlite build has no update mechanism at all. That is the point of it, but it means the machine stays exactly where you put it, so keep it off anything that matters.
Install your drivers manually. The stripped image carries far fewer of them than standard setup media does.
