A software vision mixer for live production, handling cameras, remote guests, playback, titles, replay and multi destination streaming from one machine and one interface.
vMix is a vision mixer that happens to run on a computer instead of in a rack. The interface is the one a gallery operator would recognise: preview on the left, programme on the right, a row of inputs underneath, transitions in the middle, and a cut bar you can drive from the keyboard or from a hardware panel. Anything that can be an input is an input, whether that is a capture card, a webcam, a network stream, a media file, a title, a browser page or a remote guest.
Live production needs more than switching, and the surrounding tools are all built in rather than bolted on. Chroma key with proper spill suppression and light wrap, virtual sets with camera moves, picture in picture with animated position changes, scoreboards and data driven titles that update from a spreadsheet or a live feed, and an instant replay system with multiple angles and adjustable speed.
Audio is handled as a real mixer rather than as levels per input. Multi channel handling, per input equalisation, compression and noise gating, bus routing so different destinations get different mixes, mix minus for remote guests so they do not hear themselves delayed, and delay compensation to line audio up with video that arrived through a longer chain.
Output goes wherever it needs to. Simultaneous streaming to several destinations at different bitrates, recording to disk in multiple formats at once, an external programme feed through a capture card for a screen or a projector, and network output for other machines on the same production. The Pro level carries the highest input count, the four channel replay system, and unlimited recording and streaming outputs.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Record locally as well as streaming. A dropped uplink is survivable if the recording is on disk.
Replay needs sustained disk write throughput. Put it on its own fast drive, never on the system volume.
