Adobe Premiere Pro 2026
The timeline that most of the industry cuts on, with the text based editing pass, native multiformat handling and the whole audio workflow intact.
Motion graphics and compositing with the full 3D workspace, expressions engine, Roto Brush and the plugin folder left open for the third party packs everyone runs.
After Effects is a layer based compositor and animation tool. Where Premiere cuts, After Effects builds. Titles that move, logo stings, animated infographics, screen replacements, sky replacements, wire removal, tracked signage, particle work, and the entire category of thing people call motion graphics all get made here.
The composition model stacks layers in time and space, with every property on every layer keyframable and every keyframe editable on a graph. That is the whole idea, and everything else is built on it. Parenting, null objects, shape layers with their own animators, text animators that operate per character, masks with feather and expansion, track mattes, and blending modes that match Photoshop exactly.
The 3D workspace has grown into something you can genuinely finish work in. Real cameras with depth of field, lights that cast shadows, extruded text and shapes, environment lighting from an image, and imported models that sit in the same space as your 2D layers. The Advanced 3D renderer handles reflections and proper material response, and the draft mode keeps it interactive while you block things out.
Rotoscoping and tracking do the work that used to eat weeks. Roto Brush isolates a moving subject from a few strokes and propagates across the shot. The 3D Camera Tracker solves camera motion and drops null objects into the scene so you can attach anything to a surface. Mocha is bundled for planar tracking, and the warp stabiliser fixes handheld footage without the rubbery artefacts it used to introduce.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Multicore Intel or AMD with 64 bit support, high clock speed matters here |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended, 64 GB for 3D and heavy comps |
| Graphics | 8 GB VRAM strongly recommended for the Advanced 3D renderer |
| Storage | 20 GB during install plus a dedicated fast disk cache drive |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 or higher |
Set the disk cache to a fast drive with a lot of headroom. After Effects will happily fill two hundred gigabytes on a busy project.
Third party plugin packs install into the plugin folder normally. Install them after the application, not before.
