Premiere Pro is a non linear editor built around the idea that you should never have to transcode before you start. Drop in whatever the camera produced, whether that is H.265 from a phone, ProRes from a field recorder, RAW from a cinema body or a screen capture from a laptop, and it goes on the timeline and plays. That single behaviour is why so many rooms still cut on it, and the 2026 build widens the format list again.
The editing model itself will be familiar to anyone who has used a track based editor. Source and program monitors, a timeline with as many video and audio tracks as you need, three point editing, ripple and roll trims, slip and slide, nested sequences and multicam with as many angles as your machine will decode. The Essential Graphics panel handles titles and lower thirds as reusable templates. Lumetri Color gives you a full grading stack per clip, with scopes, curves, HSL qualifiers and LUT support.
Text Based Editing is the feature that changed how people actually work. Premiere transcribes your footage, you get a document of everything said, and you cut by deleting sentences. It sounds like a gimmick until you have to pull a rough assembly out of four hours of interviews, at which point it removes most of a day. This build also carries the automatic filler word detection, which finds and marks every hesitation across a whole sequence in one pass.
Audio is handled properly rather than as an afterthought. Essential Sound classifies clips as dialogue, music, sound effects or ambience and exposes the right controls for each. Auto ducking works on the music bed against the dialogue track. The full effects rack, including the noise reduction and dereverb modules, is included, and sessions hand off cleanly to Audition if you need to go deeper.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Keep the media cache on a separate fast drive. Premiere gets noticeably slower when the cache shares a spindle with your footage.
Dynamic Link only works if After Effects from the same year is installed. Mixing versions produces offline comps.
