Nuke is the compositor most feature and high end episodic work is finished in, and the reason is the node graph. Instead of stacking layers, you connect operations into a tree that you can read, reorganise, branch, comment and hand to somebody else who can understand exactly what was done and why. On a shot with two hundred operations that difference stops being a preference and becomes the only workable option.
Everything works in floating point linear colour from end to end, with a proper colour management configuration rather than a set of assumptions. Merges are mathematically correct, deep compositing handles overlapping volumetric elements without holdout matte gymnastics, and the 3D system lets you build geometry, project plates onto it, light it and render it in the same graph as the 2D work.
The tracking and keying tools are the ones the rest of the industry measures against. The planar tracker solves surfaces that a point tracker cannot hold, the camera tracker solves full 3D motion from the plate, and the keyers handle green screen work with fine detail and heavy spill without falling apart. Roto and paint are vector based with per point animation and motion blur that matches the plate.
Studio is the level that adds the editorial environment on top. A timeline for conforming edit decision lists, versioning shots as they come back from artists, comparing versions side by side, playing back at full rate from a disk cache, adding notes for review, and exporting the whole thing back out as a conformed sequence. It means a supervisor can run a shot list without moving between three applications.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Set the disk cache to a fast drive with a great deal of room. Full resolution playback caching fills space quickly.
