PDF-XChange Pro bundles three products that most suites sell separately: the editor, a virtual printer that produces PDFs from any application with a print command, and a set of conversion tools for turning PDFs into office documents and images. The bundle is the point, since a PDF workflow that involves creating, editing and converting normally means three vendors and three interfaces.
The editor is built on a viewer that is unusually quick. Documents with thousands of pages, heavy scanned images or complex vector drawings open and scroll without the pauses that plague most PDF applications, and search across a large document returns results almost immediately. That speed is what makes the annotation tools usable at volume: highlighting, notes, callouts, stamps, measurement, text markup and freehand drawing all work at the pace you can think rather than the pace the application redraws.
Editing goes further than annotation. Text can be edited directly in the page with the original font substituted or matched, images can be replaced, resized and moved, pages can be inserted, extracted, rotated, cropped, split and merged, and content can be redacted properly by removing the underlying data rather than drawing a black rectangle over it. Optical character recognition converts scanned pages into searchable and selectable text, with language packs for the major scripts.
The document features cover the rest of a professional workflow. Form creation and filling with field validation and calculation, digital signature application and verification, document comparison, bookmark and link management, header and footer stamping across a range of pages, Bates numbering for legal work, and export to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and image formats with layout preservation that is better than most competitors manage.

Redaction is only permanent once you apply it and save. Drawing the redaction marks and closing the file leaves the content in place.
Run recognition on a copy rather than the original. The process rewrites the page content and there is no way back to the untouched scan afterwards.
