Adobe Premiere Pro 2026
The timeline that most of the industry cuts on, with the text based editing pass, native multiformat handling and the whole audio workflow intact.
Scene based capture, mixing and streaming with unlimited sources, a full audio mixer, per source filters and output to any service that speaks a standard protocol.
OBS is a live production switcher that happens to run on a desktop. You build scenes, each scene holds any number of sources, and you cut between scenes while everything keeps running. A source can be a display, a window, a game running through a capture hook, a camera, a capture card, an image, a browser page, a text field or a media file, and each one can be positioned, cropped, scaled, rotated and blended independently inside the scene.
The audio side is a proper mixer rather than a volume slider. Every source gets its own channel with a fader, meter, mute and monitoring selection, and each channel takes a filter chain: noise suppression, noise gate, compressor, limiter, expander, gain and a three band equaliser. Sync offset per channel fixes the lip sync drift that capture cards and wireless microphones introduce. Audio can be routed to as many as six separate tracks so the recording lands with dialogue, game and music on their own stems for editing afterwards.
Video filters work the same way on the source level. Chroma and colour key with adjustable spill reduction, luma key, colour correction, sharpening, scaling with selectable filtering, crop, and a scroll filter. Any source can be duplicated into another scene as a reference rather than a copy, so a camera positioned once appears correctly everywhere and changes propagate. Studio mode gives you a preview and a program output so you can arrange the next scene before you take it live.
Output covers essentially everything. Streaming to any service over RTMP, SRT, RIST or WHIP, with the encoder chosen from hardware paths on NVIDIA, AMD and Intel silicon or software encoding when quality matters more than headroom. Recording writes MP4, MKV, MOV, FLV or TS, with a remux pass so a crash safe MKV becomes an MP4 without re-encoding. Replay buffer keeps the last stretch of output in memory so a hotkey saves the thing that just happened. Virtual camera exposes the program output to any conferencing application on the machine.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Quad core 3 GHz or faster, six cores or more for software encoding |
|---|---|
| Memory | 8 GB minimum, 16 GB for multi source scenes with browser sources |
| Graphics | DirectX 11 capable GPU, hardware encoder strongly recommended |
| Storage | 1 GB for the install plus a fast drive for recordings |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 or higher |
Record to a different drive than the one your game or application is reading from. Sharing a drive is the most common cause of dropped frames.
Browser sources are full engine instances. Half a dozen of them will use more memory than everything else in the scene combined.
