Adobe Premiere Pro 2026
The timeline that most of the industry cuts on, with the text based editing pass, native multiformat handling and the whole audio workflow intact.
A general purpose media converter that takes video, audio, images and disc images between formats in batches, with device presets and basic repair built in.
Format Factory is the tool people keep on a machine for the moment something arrives in a format that will not open. It converts video, audio, images and disc images between essentially every container and codec in common use, it does it in batches, and it does not require you to understand any of it. Drag the files in, pick the target, press start.
The video side covers MP4, MKV, AVI, WMV, MOV, WebM, FLV, MPG, VOB, 3GP, RMVB and OGV with the usual codec choices behind each, and there is a settings panel for anyone who does care about bitrate, resolution, frame rate, two pass encoding, audio stream selection and subtitle embedding. Hardware acceleration is used where the graphics hardware supports it, which makes a very large difference on long files.
Audio conversion covers MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WMA, AMR, M4A, MP2 and OPUS with bitrate, sample rate and channel control, plus the ability to pull the audio track out of any video file. Image conversion handles JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF, GIF and ICO with resize, rotate, crop, watermark and colour depth options applied across a whole folder in one pass.
Beyond straight conversion there is a set of tools that are quietly useful. Ripping from a video disc image, joining several files into one, splitting a long file at chosen points without re encoding, mixing an audio track onto a video, downloading from a pasted media link, and a repair pass that rebuilds the index on a file that plays but will not seek. Everything can be queued, and the application can shut the machine down when the queue empties.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Dual core or faster, x86 or x64, more cores help batch throughput |
|---|---|
| Memory | 2 GB minimum, 8 GB for 4K conversion |
| Graphics | Optional, any adapter with hardware encode support speeds video jobs considerably |
| Storage | 300 MB plus room for the converted output |
| Display | 1280 by 720 minimum |
Converting between two lossy formats loses quality every time. Where the container is the only problem, use the remux option instead of re encoding.
Keep the output folder on a different drive from the source when converting large batches, or throughput drops sharply.
