Adobe Premiere Pro 2026
The timeline that most of the industry cuts on, with the text based editing pass, native multiformat handling and the whole audio workflow intact.
The planar tracker that the industry standardised on, shipped as a standalone application and as plugins for every major host.
Mocha tracks surfaces rather than points, and that single design decision is why it works where point trackers fail. You draw a shape around a plane in the image, a wall, a phone screen, a forehead, a road sign, and it solves the movement of that whole surface across the shot including perspective change. Motion blur, defocus, partial occlusion and low contrast all break point trackers and mostly do not break this.
What you do with the track is where the application earns its place in a pipeline. Screen replacement with correct perspective and corner pinning. Rotoscoping where the shapes track themselves instead of being keyframed frame by frame. Object removal that samples clean plates from surrounding frames and paints out signage, rigs, markers and crew reflections. Stabilisation locked to a chosen plane rather than the whole frame. Lens distortion solving and undistort and redistort round trips. Three dimensional camera solving from planar tracks.
The roto tools are a serious part of the package rather than an afterthought. X splines and bezier splines, per point feathering, layer ordering with holdouts, and the ability to link any shape to any track so a matte follows the surface it belongs to. The magnetic spline tool snaps to edges as you draw. Matte output goes out as an alpha channel or as a separate render depending on what the host needs.
It ships as a standalone application with its own project format and as plugins for After Effects, Premiere Pro, Avid, Resolve, Nuke, Flame, Vegas and OFX hosts, so the track can happen inside the host without exporting anything. Track data also exports to virtually every format a compositor might want, including corner pin, transform, stabilise and camera solve data.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Intel or AMD, 64 bit, 6 cores or more recommended |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB for 4K removal work |
| Graphics | 4 GB VRAM minimum for accelerated removal and rendering |
| Storage | 2 GB free plus space for cached clean plates |
| Host application | Optional, the standalone runs without one |
Track the largest rigid plane in the shot, not the object you care about. A wall behind a face usually tracks better than the face.
Clean plate caches get large quickly on long clips. Point the cache at a drive with room before starting a removal.
