About this release

AMAN VPN is a straightforward tunnel client that keeps the important settings on the first screen rather than buried three panels deep. You pick a location, you connect, and traffic leaves the machine encrypted. The server list spans a wide set of regions with a latency figure and a load indicator against each one, and a fastest available option that measures rather than guesses.

The protocol choice covers a modern lightweight tunnel that connects almost instantly and reconnects cleanly when a laptop moves between networks, alongside the older established protocols for networks that block anything unusual. There is an obfuscation mode that disguises the tunnel as ordinary encrypted web traffic for restrictive networks that filter by protocol signature.

Two features matter more than the rest. The kill switch blocks all traffic at the network layer if the tunnel drops, rather than pausing an application and hoping, which means a disconnection does not silently leak the connection you were protecting. Split tunnelling lets named applications bypass the tunnel entirely, which is how you keep a local printer, a banking application that refuses foreign addresses, or a large download on the direct route while everything else stays inside.

The rest is sensible defaults. Automatic connection on launch and on joining an untrusted network, a trusted network list for your own connections, leak protection covering address queries and both address families, a local blocklist for advertisement and tracker domains resolved at the tunnel, and a status panel showing the current address, the protocol in use, the session duration and the transferred volume.

What you get

  • Server list across a wide set of regions with live latency and load indicators
  • Modern lightweight protocol with fast connection and clean network switching
  • Established fallback protocols for networks that block anything unfamiliar
  • Obfuscation mode that presents the tunnel as ordinary encrypted web traffic
  • Kill switch that blocks traffic at the network layer when the tunnel drops
  • Split tunnelling with a per application include and exclude list
  • Automatic connection on launch and on joining an untrusted network
  • Trusted network list so your own connections are left alone
  • Leak protection covering address resolution and both address families
  • Status panel showing current address, protocol, session duration and transferred volume

Changes in this build

  • Additional server regions added to the location list
  • Reconnection after a network change made faster and more reliable
  • Kill switch reworked so it holds through sleep and wake cycles
  • Split tunnelling now matches on application path as well as name
  • Reduced memory use of the background service

Installation

Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

  1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
  2. Disconnect from any existing tunnel client and uninstall it if you have one.
  3. Run the installer as administrator so the network adapter can be created.
  4. Approve the virtual adapter driver prompt when it appears.
  5. Apply the licensing files from the included folder.
  6. Start the client, turn on the kill switch, and confirm your visible address changes after connecting.

System requirements

ProcessorAny 64 bit dual core processor
Memory2 GB minimum, 4 GB recommended
GraphicsAny
Storage200 MB free
NetworkBroadband connection and administrator rights to install the virtual adapter

Notes from the desk

Turn the kill switch on before you rely on the tunnel for anything. Without it a dropped connection continues in the clear and nothing tells you.

Two tunnel clients installed at once fight over routing. Remove the old one properly before installing this.
