Live is built around two views of the same set, and understanding that is understanding the application. Session view is a grid of clips you fire in any order, which is how the thing works on stage and how most people write. Arrangement view is a conventional left to right timeline, which is how you finish. You move between them freely, recording your session performance straight down into the arrangement, and nothing is lost in either direction.
Warping is the other defining behaviour. Every audio clip carries a warp map, so anything you drop in conforms to the project tempo immediately and stays musical while doing it. Change the tempo of the set and the drum loop, the vocal take and the sampled break all follow. The algorithms cover everything from percussive material to complex full mixes, and the transient markers are editable by hand when the automatic detection gets it wrong.
The Suite edition is the point of this listing. That means every instrument, so Wavetable, Operator, Analog, Collision, Electric, Tension, Sampler, Simpler, Drum Rack and the full Drum Buss chain. Every effect, including the newer spectral and modulation devices, the Hybrid Reverb, the Roar saturator and the complete dynamics and EQ set. Max for Live is included, which opens the door to the enormous library of user built devices, and the full sound pack collection ships in the same archive rather than as a later download.
MIDI work is deep without being fussy. Comping across takes, generative and transformative MIDI tools for scales, arpeggios, seeds and rhythm, per note expression, editable groove pools, and a mixer with proper routing where any track can feed any other. The included browser tags everything you own so a sound is two keystrokes away rather than a folder hunt.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Put the sample packs on a fast drive. Streaming large multisamples from a mechanical disk causes audible dropouts.
Use an ASIO driver for your interface rather than the generic one. The generic driver adds enough latency to make recording unpleasant.
