A system wide tunnel and encrypted resolver that routes traffic across Cloudflare's network, with split tunnelling and a family filtering mode.
This client does two related things and does them with almost no configuration. First, it replaces your system resolver with an encrypted one, so the addresses you look up stop travelling in the clear to whatever resolver your connection handed you. Second, it wraps the rest of your traffic in a tunnel to the nearest Cloudflare edge, which means the network you are sitting on sees an encrypted stream rather than a readable list of everywhere you went.
It is deliberately not a location spoofing service. The tunnel exits close to where you actually are, because the goal is a shorter and cleaner path rather than pretending to be somewhere else. On a congested residential connection or a badly peered mobile network that often makes browsing measurably faster, since traffic joins a well connected backbone at the first hop instead of taking whatever route your provider was going to use.
Split tunnelling is included and is the setting worth learning. You can exclude specific applications or specific address ranges from the tunnel, which is how you keep printers, network attached storage, local development servers and corporate resources reachable while everything else stays wrapped. The rules can be written as an include list instead, so only the applications you name go through the tunnel and nothing else does.
The resolver has selectable modes. Standard resolution with no filtering, a malware filtering mode, and a family mode that also blocks adult content, each selected by a switch rather than by typing addresses. The client sits in the notification area with a single toggle, reconnects on its own when the network changes, and can be set to connect automatically on untrusted networks while staying off on the ones you have marked as trusted.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

This does not change your apparent location. If that is what you need, this is the wrong tool.
Local network devices become unreachable when the tunnel is up unless you add their address range to the split tunnel exclusions.
