uTorrent became the default torrent client by being tiny. The executable is small enough to be irrelevant on any modern machine, it starts instantly, and it uses almost nothing while running in the background. Everything it does, it does without making the machine feel busy, which is why it stayed installed on so many computers for so long.
The transfer engine is complete. Distributed hash table so torrents work without a tracker, peer exchange, local peer discovery for machines on the same network, magnet link handling, encrypted transport, sequential download for files you want to start using before they finish, selective file downloading inside a multi file torrent, and per torrent bandwidth and connection limits.
Queue management is the part that matters day to day. Global and per torrent speed limits, scheduling so transfers run overnight and pause during working hours, seeding goal ratios that stop a torrent automatically, automatic label based folder sorting, and an RSS downloader that watches feeds and grabs anything matching a filter you define.
The Pro tier removes the advertising panels and adds the built in media player with codec handling, a format converter for pushing finished files onto phones and tablets, streaming playback while a file is still downloading, and integrated file scanning on completion.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.

Turn automatic updates off immediately. An update replaces the Pro state.
Set your download folder somewhere with real space before you start anything large. Moving active torrents afterwards is tedious.
