Internet Download Manager
The download accelerator that splits every transfer into segments, resumes a broken job cleanly and grabs media out of a page the moment it starts playing.
Grabs video, audio, playlists, channels and subtitles from a very long list of sites, with quality selection up to the highest the source offers.
4K Video Downloader Plus does what its name says and rather more. You paste a link, it reads what is available at the other end, and it offers you every quality and format the source is actually serving rather than a guess. That includes the highest resolution streams, the separate audio tracks, the alternate codecs and the subtitle files, and it recombines the separate video and audio streams that modern sites deliver into one playable file.
Beyond single videos it handles playlists and whole channels in one action, with a limit you set, and it can subscribe to a channel so new uploads download automatically as they appear. There is a smart mode that applies your last used settings to everything you paste, which turns the whole thing into copy and paste with no dialogs. In app search means you do not have to open a browser at all for the sites it supports.
Format handling is broad. Video out as MP4, MKV or the original container. Audio extracted as MP3, M4A or OGG at your chosen bitrate. Subtitles either embedded into the container or saved as separate files, in as many languages as the source provides, including automatically generated tracks. Playlists can be written out with the correct numbering and metadata so a music player reads them properly.
There is a proxy configuration for restricted connections, a download queue with concurrency limits and bandwidth capping so a large batch does not saturate the line, and a duplicate check so a second attempt on the same link does not produce two copies. The interface stays out of the way and the entire application is small, which is a reasonable part of why it stayed popular while heavier alternatives came and went.
Read the whole list before you start. Most of the reports that come into the desk about this title turn out to be a step taken out of order.
| Processor | Any Intel or AMD processor, dual core or better |
|---|---|
| Memory | 2 GB minimum, 4 GB recommended |
| Graphics | Any GPU, hardware decoding used for merging where present |
| Storage | 300 MB for the install plus space for downloads |
| Display | 1024 by 768 or higher |
If a link suddenly fails, the site changed something at their end. The extractor set updates independently of the application version.
Set a concurrency limit of three or four. Higher numbers get throttled at the source rather than going faster.
