Understanding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
Senior Biden administration officials arrived in Armenia on Monday amid the exodus of thousands of ethnic Armenians from the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The U.S. has called on Azerbaijan to protect civilians and let in aid while, according to the Associated Press, more than 1,300 people have left the region since Azerbaijan seized the disputed territory last week. Mathieu Droin, a visiting fellow at U.S. think tank the Center for Strategic and International Studies, joined CBS News to discuss the deadly territorial dispute.
WGA board, council to vote on new union deal
In Hollywood, leaders of the Writers Guild of America are expected to approve a new contract Tuesday after months on strike. The deal will still need to be ratified by the union's members, but the strike could officially end before that happens. CBS News correspondent Elise Preston reports from Los Angeles.
Shutdown could downgrade U.S. credit: Moody's
With just days remaining for Congress to pass a spending bill to keep the government running, credit agency Moody's is warning a shutdown could cause the U.S. to lose its AAA rating. Why NASA retrieved samples from an asteroid

Lahaina residents return home
Maui residents are finally being allowed back to their properties in Lahaina, nearly seven weeks after the town was almost entirely destroyed by massive wildfires that killed at least 97 people. CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti has more on how locals are struggling to cope with the grief.
WGA, studios reach tentative deal
Nearly five months after the start of the WGA strike, Hollywood writers and studios have reached a tentative deal on a new labor contract. Terms of the deal, which were not immediately made public, must still be ratified by the WGA's approximately 11,000 members. CBS News correspondent Elise Preston has more.
Government shutdown less than a week away
Tensions are mounting in Washington as the October 1 deadline to avoid a government shutdown quickly approaches. Over the weekend, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with Republicans to try to shore up support for a conservative spending plan and to keep the government funded. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane has more.
